I ran my first marathon, the Steamtown Marathon finishing in Scranton, PA. It's a very well-run marathon with a great community feel to it. I finished in just under 4 hrs (3h58m35s) and am ecstatic about the time. It's not only a PR (Duh! It's my first one) but also better than my best case scenario of 4 hrs even. The perfect weather conditions and the fast first half (1h58m) definitely helped. As did the first-time-finisher adrenalin.
Looking forward to other runs now. I need to run more over the next year so that 8.30 min/mile finish at NY marathon next year is not impossible. I also want to improve my 5k, 10k and half marathon PRs.
Cheers.

Training for Steamtown
18 mile NYC marathon tuneup (Sep 28, 2008)
Had a slightly upset stomach, pains rom the 4th mile, tried new shoes (Size 13 Brooks) which didn't work very well. Got the new Saucony progrid ride immediately after this. Good move.
18 miles with MSRR (Sep 20, 2008)
Felt like a dead log at the end. Could not finish the planned 20 miles. Was sick and did not train leading up to it. Maybe the shoes too?
NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix (Sep 14, 2008)
Finished in 1:59:15
Pace: 9:06
Fairly hilly course. Was in a bit of pain (knee, ankle). Very satisfied to have finished in <2 hrs.
Good training for Steamtown.
First Track Workout (Sep 2, 2008)
Running on a track is awesome. Never realized how great it really is - or how much I can use my height to get a good, long stride. I wasn't really sprinting, but I could hold 7:40mins/mile if I ran a 400-800-1200-800-400 with 200 m jogs in between. I am sure I can come down to 7 min miles on the track with some work.
August Runs
Did a 20 miler in Central Park (my first) a week after the NYC Half.
Did a 15 mile run in the bronx with MSRR. This was a killer with nightmare hills.
NYC Half Marathon (July 27, 2008)
Ran with Anil. Good conditions. 70 deg, cloudy. Quite humid.
Finished in 2:09:18 (9:52/mile). Sprinted at finish, but had knee pain throughout the last 4 miles.
Split times:
5k: 0:32:47
10k: 1:03:38
15k: 1:33:24
20k: 2:03:27
Final: 2:09:18
